My Life in Pictures
"A woman and her plants"
As you may have gathered by now, my name is Mariana. I’m a second-generation Mexican-American Latina, born and raised in California’s Central Valley. Like many feminist Latinas, my mother was the driving force behind shaping me into the strong woman I am today. Unlike many of the Mexican Americans I grew up with, I didn’t have the large, close-knit family full of tios and tias gathering for carne asadas or big celebrations. My mother arrived in this country alone and remained so, even while raising her three children. Her resilience became the foundation of her feminism, and she raised me with the same strength and independence.
My mother has always been my greatest source of motivation, encouraging me to explore my passions and interests—many of which revolved around punk, rock, and alternative music. The impact of music on my identity, political beliefs, and self-expression is undeniable, shaping who I am today. Being a chingona Mexican-American, alternative, feminist is the driving source of my life's purpose. I hope to take more space in this male dominated social space and inspire more woman to make just as much noise.

What a mess we are living in this current political climate. It seems like everytime we pick up our phones or turn on the news, a new announcement reversing years of progress has been made. When all hope can feel lost, it’s important to surround yourself with people who share your same ideals. Like many of you, I am also addicted to my phone and social media, I have made it my mission to have accounts that I follow that will fuel my activism and latinidad in a world where higher forces aim to diminish our flame. Here are my favorite accounts:
